smart plastics news 2021

Moving energy made smart – through innovation and sustainability

Our task is to constantly develop new innovations in e-chains and cables. This enables us to help you to save costs and further increase the quality of machines and systems at the same time, in other words "Tech up. Cost down".

We at igus also accept the responsibility to contribute to the reduction of plastic waste and improvement of recycling: when energy chains reach their end of service life, we have them processed in the igus recycling programme . Also learn more about our investment in chemical recycling by Mura Technology Limited.

Contactless monitoring of moving cables ...

... with the smart plastics i.Sense CF.D II concept study

Here, we present a concept study for further development of the proven cable monitoring system - i.Sense CF.D II. The new sensor electronics system is "clicked" onto both sides of the cable to be monitored, close to the connector and a small measuring wire is wrapped around the cable. This wraps a small (8cm) "antenna" around the cable that is being measured.

This allows measuring the data transmission properties of Bus, Ethernet, or any data cables during operation without having to intervene in the data path . This reduces assembly costs, lowers operational downtime risk and eliminates the need for re-calibration procedures after assembly.

Knowledge at the touch of a button ...

... with the new smart plastics complete set

smart plastics make your energy supply system intelligent ... at the touch of a button. Now you can conveniently order the complete smart package for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance online at your desk. The appropriate components are suggested based on your existing e-chain. All you have to do is determine the application parameters, such as cable projections or control cabinet position and you have the ready-made complete set for retrofitting ...  all of this including price, delivery time and parts list.

Condition monitoring on bus cables ...

... thanks to a new measuring method without any sacrificial cores at all

Always with the goal of saving unnecessary costs and resources, we have further optimised i.Sense CF.D, the condition monitoring of Ethernet cables in e-chain systems and triflex R applications. The new measuring method determines the data transmission properties of the cables during operation by using high-frequency technology. This eliminates the need for additional sacrificial cores, which is good for the budget and the environment.

Now 4 condition sensors in one box ...

... with the new i.Sense:modul II

The i.Sense:modul II, which was further developed based on customer feedback, offers you a multitude of new possibilities and application scenarios for smart condition monitoring. Specifically, with this new generation, four status sensors can be connected to just one switch cabinet module at the same time, which means considerable space and cost savings. And not only in the switch cabinet, but also in the chain itself, as only one cable needs to be run for every four sensors.

A whole lot of Industry 4.0 in one device ...

... with the new 2nd generation i.Cee:plus module

i.Cee = "I foresee" - now also in our customers' network environments and IoT concepts. The second generation of the i.Cee:plus module creates the optimal framework conditions for predictive maintenance entirely in the interest of the customer. Because the possibility of seamless integration into the intended network environments of the respective applications enables a wide variety of Industry 4.0 use cases to be implemented.

Predictive maintenance for heavy-duty applications ...

... with smart plastics in the new P4HD rol e-chain

In the latest expansion stage of the igus rol e-chain, the use of maintenance-free, tribopolymer plain bearings in the connection of the e-chain links significantly increases the service life. The new P4HD can be fitted with smart monitoring sensors. From a defined wear limit, a signal is transmitted to the i.Cee: plus communication module and can be used to plan rol e-chain maintenance predictively. The sensor is integrated into a standard side part of the chain, which does not lead to restrictions on the usable inside width.

Finally also for drylin W profile guides ...

... Connection to the Internet of Things (IoT) with i.Cee

A measurement and data transmission unit is built into the carrier plate of the drylin carriage to implement a wide range of Industry 4.0 applications. This communicates via the customary LoRa radio standard up to a range of 50m with the intelligent i.Cee:plus module. This can then be used for all kinds of integration into customer networks or other IoT concepts. Of course, it can also be implemented locally using a standard CAT5 patch cable.
